January Favourites

Sunday 27 February 2011

I’m super late with this post, it’s almost the end of February,it’s better late then never.
I’m just been keeping it simple in January.

MAC Prep & Prime Powder - Love this over moisturiser or as a finishing powder, super light and finely milled it’s really easy to work with.

MAC Mineralize satin finish foundation NC35 - I have always loved Mineral products and MAC mineralize is still a firm favourite foundation of mine. I love the dewy finish

D&G Light Blue - Oh MY Gosh!!!! I was sent a sample of this eau de toilette and I fell in love with it. The light floral scent is so me, it has a blend of flowers and fruity notes: apple, bluebells, jasmine, bamboo and white rose. With subtle hints of cedarwood, amber and musk. Will be purchasing the full size bottle, I think I love it more then CK one my signature scent!

Maybelline Turbo xpress mascara -  this is still my HG mascara, faithfully using this every single day and it gives length and volume!
Bodyshop carbon eyeliner - Another eyeliner I love to use everyday it does not give me raccoon eyes! LOL
Lush Tea Tree Water - I have went and purchased the bigger size bottle it’s helping me kill bacteria on my face. My face is covered with acne once again sighs!

My hair Colour - Schwarzkopf Igora Royal 8-1 Light Ash Blonde

I did made a video but was a bit lazy to edit it, so I’m posting a text post. So sorry I haven’t been blogging lately, my personal life is pretty hectic.

People have been googling my hair colour and I can reveal the latest hair colour was a DIY job. Well not exactly DIY because I had my lovely friend Kim dye my hair.

As you may remember I posted a colour chart star on old post for cool and warm characters. I tend to be a cool tone especially in winter, so I opted for ash browns in my hair. Just before the DIY job, I did lighten my hair with a caramel colour.

The tube I used on my hair is Schwarzkopf Igora Royal 8-1 light ash blonde, Igora Royal are professional hair dyes that salon use and you can easily pick up from Sally’s beauty supplies.I used a 9% vol developer with my hair dye tube.

Fell in love with the colour looks fabulous on the lips. I was testing this at the MAC store, need to buy it soon!

NEW Avon Moisture seduction - Red Kiss lipstick swatch

Friday 4 February 2011

The lovely Avon sent me their newest lipstick to try “Moisture seduction”, it promises to moisture for 24 hrs. I manged to swatch and test for 4 hours.
Surprisingly the red blends into with my natural lip colour nicely, it’s a lovely creamy texture.  The bad thing about this the staying power is not so good, I managed to stain my bath towel, and hand by accidence touching my lips.
What’s good about the product, it moisturise as promised it looks really natural on my lips.
The fun part of this promotional card, was the “read my lips” section, kiss the box to check out what your lip shape says about you.
I think mine is in-between round/oval and wavy.
“Round/oval”
- you are happiest when others are happy too
- you like things to run smoothly
 - you don’t like to argue and prefer to operate
“Wavy”
- you are extremely creative with a great imagination
- you are a artist
- your talent is known and appreciated by others
Lucky for me with this promotional sample  I get to order the full size version for FREE!

8 Muslin Cloths for £1.60 SAYYYYYYYY WHAAAAT!

Yes you read the title right. 8 muslin cloths for £1.60! Instead of paying extreme prices in the shops go to a fabric store and buy it there. I brought mine for £1.60 per a metre at rolls and rems. http://www.rollsandrems.com/
The fabric is folded in half here, but look at how much you get for £1.60!
I’ve managed to cut up the fabric into 8 cloths, I could have made 16 but the fabric is a little thin.

Akin Jojo & Corn Gentle exfoliating facial scrub & Akin Express Purifying Facial Masque Review

For January I wanted to test 2 products from the A’Kin range the Jojo & Corn scrub and the Purifying Masque.  I have tested these products for around 3 weeks, as exfoliating and using face mask everyday can be damaging to the skin. I only used these 2-3 times a week.

I will start with the Jojo & Corn Scrub, it cost £17.99 for a 75ml scrub, if you are familiar with the A’Kin brand you will know the skincare comes in a beige colour packaging with earth green fonts. As with all A’kin products they are SLS, parabean, propylene glycol, petro chemical free. You can purchase from mypure website

Ingredients: aqua, disodium cocoamphodiacetate, lauryl glucoside, sorbitol, glycerin, sclerotium gum, jojoba esters, zea mays cob powder, sodium cocoyl glutamate, hamamelis virginiana water, glyceryl laurate, citric acid, sodium citrate, sodium gluconate, sodium stearoyl lactylate, chlorphenesin, sodium dehydroacetate, quilaja suponaria, panthenol, sodium isostearoyl lactylate, ethylhexylglycerin, fusanus spicatus wood oil, citrus aurantium dulcis flower water.

Active ingredients:
• Corn grit – exfoliating, helps remove skin cells and stimulates microcirculation.
• Jojo beads – rounded wax beads for gentle exfoliation.
• Vit B5 – ‘the beauty vitamin’ to soothe skin.
• Witch Hazel – helps clarify and soothe.

Directions for Use:
Squeeze a small amount of the Jojo and Corn Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub onto your moistened fingers. Massage gently onto the face and decolletage concentrating on problem areas, avoiding the eye area. Rinse with warm water and follow with Orange Blossom and Chamomile Refreshing and Soothing Toner and your favourite A’kin Moisturiser.

Pros
✓ Smooth skin after use
✓ did not react to my sensitive acne prone skin

Cons
✗ A bit pricey for such a small amount
✗ Bottle cap broke within 2 weeks of use

Verdict
This scrub has vitamin B5 and witch hazel, this scrub is very gentle on the skin sweeping away the dead skin cells on the surface. The product is golden honey in colour and contains tiny particles of the corn. The smell has a hint of sandalwood, and the corn and jojo beads are as tiny as sugar granules. To be brutally honest I did not see much of a difference to my skin within the weeks I have tested the product, other the exfoliating properties there was no improvement to my spots and scars. The great thing about the product is that it did not react to my acne prone skin. The bottle cap was a bit flimsy and broke in half during week three. I do not have enough pros to make me repurchase this product.

Akin Express Purifying Facial Masque
The masque, £16.49 for 75ml in size, this product is suitable for all types of skin. You can buy this from Mypure
A’kin Kaolin Clay and Activated Carbon Express Purifying Facial Masque is for normal, combination and oily skin. This fast-acting masque delivers a clear, smooth, glowing purified complexion from the very first application. Kaolin clay and activated carbon deeply cleanses the skin by drawing out pore clogging toxins and impurities whilst absorbing excess oils. Astringent witch hazel, plus lemongrass and cedarwood, helps minimise the appearance of pores.

Ingredients
Aqua (purified Australian water^), kaolin, hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) water, glycerin*, macadamia ternifolia seed oil (cold pressed, Australian grown), caprylic/capric triglyceride*, cetearyl alcohol*, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil (cold pressed, Australian grown), sodium stearoyl glutamate*, carbon*, tocopheryl acetate (Vit E)*, bisabolol*, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract [CO2], helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, lecithin*, tocopherol*, xanthan gum*, citric acid*, sodium phytate (from rice), ethylhexylglycerin, phenoxyethanol, sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, cymbopogon schoenanthus oil (lemongrass), citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) oil, cedrus atlantica bark oil (cedarwood), citral#, d-limonene#, linalool#. ^BP standard *botanical sources #from essential oils

Active Ingredients:
• Kaolin clay - deeply cleanses by drawing out impurities from the skin and helping to reduce excess oils
• Activated carbon - helps draw out pore clogging toxins to leave skin refreshed and purified
• Lemongrass essential oil - a potent, astringent and clarifying extract that helps regulate oil levels on the skin and provides a fresh uplifting aroma
• Cedarwood essential oil - helps calm the skin while controlling excess sebum
• Witch hazel - a proven astringent that tones and tightens the skin

Directions for Use:
After cleansing and drying the skin, smooth a generous layer of this masque onto your face and décolletage, avoiding the eye area. Leave for 5-10 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Follow with your favourite A’kin moisturiser. For best results use once to twice a week.

Pros
✓ bright vibrant skin after use
✓ kaolin clay is left my face soft
✓ absorb oil on my face

VerdictThis masque I really loved, compared to my Shiesido clay mask this one ranks the same. The clay does not leave your face tight or dry after use, I tend to love kaolin clay in my skin care. My face was left glowing and more vibrant after use the lemongrass is rather refreshing to smell. Over the past few weeks my skin started to look really good my skincare routine was sebamed soap, botanics toner and lush celestrial moisturiser using A’kin scrub and masque 2-3 times a week. I have no cons for this product and this will defiantly be repurchased.

December Favourites

So sorry, I have been ill for 2 months and been awfully busy to update the month favourites. Here’s my December favourites.
Goodthings Skincare - played a major part of me becoming more discipline in taking care of my skin and reading the beauty bible, I know learned a cleanser and muslin cloth and moisturiser is all you need to look after your skin. Unfortunately I had to stop using Goodthings during the January month, the product made my eye area red and sore giving it eczema like conditions.
Muslin Cloth - This cloth does great wonders it gently removes the dead cells on the surface of the face without irritating the skin. From using Goodthings I learned you can use the cloth with foaming cleansers and not just cream ones. I will be popping to a fabric store soon and will report back the prices for muslin cloth per the metre.
Kiehl’s #1 lip balm - this is the only lip balm that works for me, it moisturisers my lips throughout the day, nothing else works, I’ve been a loyal user for 6 years. £10 is expensive I know.
Lily lolo - I’m a big fan of mineral foundations, it looks fantastic on camera, this stuff does not break my face out and it lasts all day.
