Living nature nourishing shampoo and conditioner review

Thursday 25 November 2010

Living nature is a New Zealand brand and is one of the first companies to produce products without the synthetic preservatives or parabeans.
Living nature makes the following promises to customers
  • No Synthetic Preservatives
  • No ingredients we consider potentially harmful
  • No Mineral Oils
  • No Irradated Ingredients
  • No Herbicide or Pesticide Residues
  • No Genetically Modified Ingredients
  •  No Animal Ingredients
  •  No Animal Testing
  •  Always Use High Quantities of Bioactive Ingredients
  •  Only Use Recyclable, Reusable, Reduced Packaging
The products I’m reviewing are 100% natural preservatives, fragrance and ingredients.
Packaging – I thought the packaging for both the shampoo and conditioner was really interesting, in photos it looked like a cylinder, but it reality it’s a half a cylinder that’s flat on one side. The branding of the artwork is simple using only the colour black for the logo, text, the bottle is an off white colour and comes in a press top cap.
Living Nature Nourishing Shampoo – The manufacture promises to help repair and nurture dry and damaged hair. Product cost £14.99 and is 200ml/1.76 fl oz.
Active ingredients – Kumerahou and active manuka honey
Kumerahou – it has the ability to produce lather by rubbing flowers and leaves together in water. The lathering properties are deprived from natural surfactants known as saponins. The benefits are gentle cleansing and anti-microbial.
Full ingredients - Aqua (water), Decyl glucoside, Sodium lauroyl glutamate, Glycerin (vegetable glycerin), Mel (manuka honey), Coco-glucoside, Glyceryl oleate, Galactoarabinan (larch tree gum), Parfum (fragrance)*, Xanthan gum, Butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter**, Glucose, Pomaderris kumerahou flower/leaf extract, Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil**, Triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil, Glucose oxidase, Lactoperoxidase, Tocopherol (vitamin E). *From natural essential oils. **Certified organic.
Directions of use – Use daily if needed. Massage a small amount into wet hair working from roots to ends to clean thoroughly. Rinse with warm water and follow with Living Nature Nourishing Conditioner.
Verdict- The aroma of the shampoo is a very sweet smelling it is uplifting and fills the bathroom with the smell. The consistency of the shampoo is very runny and I have to use a ping pong size to produce lather in my hair I always shampoo my hair twice to make sure it cleans properly. It does not make your hair knotty when you shampoo. After rinsing it makes the hair immediately softer, the condition of my hair prior to using was dry and damaged and frizzy and hard to control.
Living Nature Conditioner – Same with the shampoo it promises to help repair and nurture dry and damaged hair. Product cost £14.99 for 250ml/6.76fl.oz.
Active ingredients – Active manuka honey and larch tree extract
Full ingredients - Aqua (water), Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil**, Cetearyl olivate (from olive oil), Sorbitan olivate (from olive oil), Pentaclethra macroloba (pracaxi fruit) seed oil**, Sucrose cocoate (from coconut & sugar beet), Persea gratissima (avocado) oil, Cetyl Palmitate (from olive oil), Sorbitan Palmitate (from olive oil), Galactoarabinan (larch tree gum), Glycerin (vegetable glycerin), Triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil, Parfum (natural fragrance)*, Glucose (plant sugar), Caryocar brasiliense (pequi) fruit oil, Cetearyl alcohol (from coconut & palm oil), Mel (manuka honey), Glucose oxidase (from milk), Lactoperoxidase (from milk), Tocopherol (vitamin E). * Component of natural essential oils ** Certified organic
Directions of use – Smooth through wet hair from roots to ends after cleansing with Living nature nourishing shampoo. Leave for a few minutes, then rinse well with warm water.
Verdict – The consistency of the conditioner is very light weight, almost like a moisturiser creamy texture. The smell is really strong very similar to Japanese sake I wanted to gag the first time I used this product. As weeks went passed I was use to smell, it detangles my hair nicely.
After washing my hair and blowing drying it straight.
Final verdict –
Both products work well in harmony with one and the other, my hair texture has improved dramatically, usually after washing my hair my hair would be very thick even after blow drying. Using these products helped smooth the hair cuticles nicely and helped with my frizzy hair. It really did help nourish my dry and damaged hair. Usually I have noticed when I used natural and SLS free hair products my hair tends to become greasy after 2 days; this wasn’t the case with Living nature. There was a time when I didn’t wash my hair for 3-4 days and my hair wasn’t visibly greasy but as soon as I washed my hair the water was filthy. The only thing this shampoo didn’t really give me was shine; sometimes I would use some Tara Smith base serum for some shine in my hair. I really enjoyed using Living Natural hair care products but the price tag puts me off for £14.99 for a bottle, means I need to spend £30 for the duo.

Fiorelli Black launches today!

Tuesday 23 November 2010

This entry is non-beauty related but since not everyone goes on my tumblr blog i re-post the entry here.

I was invited to the Fiorelli and Nica bag press event last month and here are the photos for their upcoming bags.
Fiorelli Black range has just launched today and is available to buy online from their website.
Fiorelli Black is the creative vision of Lisa Wood, applying luxurious and elegant hardware to cutting edge styles. Fiorelli black is the premium statement accessory.
The ‘Jones’ medium flap over is one of my favourites from the collection made with 100% PU outside and 100% Polyester lining. I am a big fan of the ribbon threaded through the chain style; it has the Chanel and nautical feel this bag will set you back for £65. This bag is featured in the Marie Clare December issue.

NOTD - China Glaze 'Jitterbug'

Saturday 20 November 2010

Jitterbug is from the vintage vixen collection, the colour oozes a gun metal grey and has plenty of silver glitter specks. I love China Glaze nail lacquer because it takes two coats for it to show the pigmentation it last ages and does not stain your nails yellow.

Tara Smith Base Coat Serum review

Since I started to cut down on SLS, parabean and other nasty chemicals I was on the hunt to try new stuff. I came across Tara Smith hair range from cosmetic candy blog. Tara Smith is a well known celebrity hairdressers who has the likes of Demi Moore, Natalie Imbruglia, Lindsay Lohan, Kristen Davis as her clients.

Her hair care concentrates on being parabean, sodium laureth sulphate, phthalates and more free. The products are made in the UK, in Sussex, and do not test on animals. It is made with natural and organic earth friendly ingredients, vegan approved, BUAV approved. Her hair care range consists of 11 products.
Tara Smith Base Coat Serum
Packaging – Simple white bottle with a side twist application to open and close 50ml in size and cost £5.75 from bodaycare2000. A sticker with Tara Smith branding and I love the slogan “TESTED ON FILM STARS NOT ON ANIMALS”
Full ingredientsCyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconal, Dimetihicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Borago Officinalis Seed Oil, Parfum, Linalool, Limonene.

Active ingredients
Borage Oil, Citrus and Orange, 100% organic fragrance, including Lemon, Lavandin, Mandarin, Petitgrain, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Gernaium, Clove and Anthopogon.

Key ingredients are:Borago Officinalis seed oil Gamma Linolenic Acid is used extensively as a nutritional supplement and in this context adds both nutrients and hydration to the hair.
Borage oil which has the highest level of Gamma Linolenic Acid and provides a good foundation for the hair.

Verdict – It is a really nice smelling natural product, the consistency is like any serums clear in colour and a gel like appearance. This product does contain silicones which just coat the hair (Dimetihicone), which is negative point for me. It helps control the frizz in the cold winter weather and helps keeps my hair sleek and in place, prep for blow drying the hair.
Another negative was the poor bottle design, the bottle was shipped to me leaking, bodycare2000 did part refund me some money. I leave this on its side on my bed and the product leaked, now I only have 50% left. Tara smith website says her products are stocked in Tesco, but when I went there was none of the aisle I contacted both Tesco and Tara and they told me the line is pulled out in Tesco’s.
I recommend buying these products online. Will I buy this product again? Well maybe, I just wished it was available in stores so I can pick it up; the bottle is so badly designed it is prone to leakage.

Maybelline Volum’ Express Turbo Boost Mascara in Very Black waterproof review

I been trying this product for over 2 weeks and I’m really loving this product, as you may know I brought this after peeping into Rumi’s make up post. I love how the brush is the normal style brush and not those horrible plastic bristles.
Product claims: - The Turbo Boost Plumping Gel formula pumps up lashes for up to 5 X the volume.
- The Anti-Clump Turbo Brush builds ultra-volume.
- Opthalmologically tested - suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.
- Washable; also available in a waterproof formula.
Verdict:

As you can see from the above photos, that even with one coat, it gives me length and volume. I do not need to use my Shisheido mascara base and it holds curls really well and last all day, it does not smudge and is very easy to remove. It does take about 2-3 coats for the results I want. The formula does not harden my lashes and feels very natural and not heavy. I already brought backups since I love this more than my current HG drugstore mascara L’Oreal Lash architect.

Lancome - Colour fever 312 Pink in the limo lipstick review

Sunday 7 November 2010

This is a review of Lancome - Colour fever lipstick shade #312 Pink in the limo lipstick.
This was a GWP (gift with purchase) so the packaging of the lipstick is different to the retail version. This is a pearl pink with a satin finish, as you can see from the photo below it has glitter that gives light reflecting properties. The colour is very vibrant on the lips and the formula does not dry lips out.

Lush Yummy Yummy Yummy Shower cream review

yummy yummy yummy
I must admit, I am a lush addict! I have been using Lush products for over 3 years now. I love my bath and shower times with lush.
Although this product contains SLS, my skin is not as sensitive compare to my scalp.
So yummy yummy yummy is a shower cream which is infused with the smell of strawberries and cream! It contains honey, almond oil, sea salt, balsamic vinegar and etc.
This stuff really does soften my skin, i took the travel size bottle with me for a overnight stay at my friends house. I did not had any body moisturiser with me and this moisturised my skin. Very impressive, the only con to this product is that i need a lot of the shower cream to lather with.
The packaging is very simple a clear bottle, with a black flip top cap. There’s two stickers with the staff who made the product and the chalk board style with white writing.
You can buy this online or at any store http://www.lush.co.uk/

Hair Colouring Guide Schwarzkophf professional colours

So today I decided to get rid of the blondes in my hair and dye the hair darker. So it came to mind to talk about skin tone complexion and how to find the perfect hair colour to bring out your eyes and features. As I go to the hairdressers a lot I picked up information and researched online.  The colour guide I give below is for Schwarzkopf professional hair dye that you find in the salon. The hair dye i used today was Loreal luo colour but the shading system different and I cant find any pictures of the colour star.
You need to determine what skin tone you are the main two is cool and warm but there are some people out there who are neutral.
Warm – Those with a warm skin tone will have green veins and have golden undertones in their skin.  People in this category are warm characters and from the Schwarzkopf colourist colour star you can opt for colours with -49, -4, -54, -5, -55, .77, 0-88, and 89. These colours have gold – yellow, copper – orange or red in the tints.
Cool – Those with a cool skin tone will have blue veins and you will naturally look pale. People in this category can opt for the shades with -33,-22, and 11. These colours tend to be ash like, violent, ash-blue, matt-green.

October Favourites

Thursday 4 November 2010

It's that time again, for my monthly favourite products.

A'kin day & Night crème - £19.99 each be using this to rejuvenate my acne prone face, the crème is not too rich and heavy it is also full of vitamins.

Bodyshop - eye definer carbon, £8 I love this as I can create smokey eyes without any black shadows super quick. Comes with an eye smugger, it is more of a charcoal looking black then carbon.

Naked 97% natural crème de mer 24 hour body butter - Still one of my favourite body butters keeps my skin soft for more than 24 hours. (Next month you see a lot more naked body products) Snap some quick, it is currently buy one get one free on the naked website http://www.nakedbodycare.co.uk/

Boots botanic smoothing eye makeup remover - £2.99 This product is so dirt cheap and removes eye makeup really well, I learnt some new tricks for removing eye makeup. Dampen this on a cotton wool, split the cotton wool in half and simply leave this for 20 secs to melt the makeup off. You do not need to smudge the delicate eye area to get rid of stubborn waterproof mascara.
Maybelline Volume Express Turbo mascara – £5.99 After peeping into Rumi beauty products post http://www.fashiontoast.com/2010/10/on-beauty.html I instantly wanted to try the Maybelline mascara, lately I have had trouble coat my lashes with mascara. This one not only coated every single eyelash I had but did not clump and flake unlike the L’Oreal ones. (Also because of Rumi I went to buy the quick thinking wipes £6.75 and will be purchasing the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré soon)

Nars Orgasm – I had this blush for 1-2 years now and I still haven’t made a dent in this, lately I stop sporting orange/bronze blushes and prefer this peachy colour for the winter and when my skin is lighter.
