Lovea bio pure argan oil part one review

Thursday, 9 June 2011

Product Name: l’argan
Weight/Price: 100ml for £16.99
Made in: N/A
Where to buy:
http://bit.ly/ll6TTd
Product Description: 100% Pure Argan Oil (not certified organic)
Argan Oil is rich in Essential Fatty Acids (often referred to as Vit F) and Vit E, it is the undisputed anti-wrinkle treatment. Used as a hair mask it fortifies the hair shaft and brings life back to dull hair.
Argan Oil or Moroccan Oil has been used for centuries by local tribes in North Africa but only recently has it come to the attention of cosmetic scientists. Research shows that the oil is packed with beautifying ingredients like vitamin E, phenols, carotenes and essential fatty acids, in fact it is over 70% oleic & linoleum acids. These essential fatty acids are also known as the skin vitamin - Vitamin F, and just like other vitamins the body is unable to produce its own Vitamin F.
Argan oil has a strong aroma which fades quickly, the smell reminds most people of fresh olive stones.
Argan oil increases skin elasticity, nourishes and helps normalise the skin. Argan Oil is a 100% natural skin food and regular use will keep your skin in tip top condition.
Lovea (Copar) oils are supplied in an airtight glass bottle with a sealed pump dispenser at the top. Prior to shipping we store bottles in dark boxes to keep the oils fresh and preserve the anti-oxidants. Once opened we recommend the oil is stored away from direct sunshine and heat sources.

Full Ingredients
Argan Oil (Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil)
Personal Experience: When I received my package I was really excited about this product, I have tried the kiehl’s argan oil with no luck and was about to purchase Moroccan oil until I saw it was filled with silicones. This product is 100% argan as its main ingredient rich in vitamin e and noted for liquid gold in some counties. The product comes in a glass bottle with a pump, not so great for travelling. The sticker label is written in French with a little blub of English. I had to seek mypure website for directions on use. When I first visited mypure the only directions was to apply the product prior to washing hair for treatment. Right now the website states “Best applied to moist skin straight after bathing or showering. Add a few drops to your favourite moisturiser for an extra anti-oxidant boost! As a hair mask comb through dry or towel dry hair. Can be washed out after 5 mins with Lovea Argan Oil Shampoo or left in until next wash.” So I will be doing a further review using the product for my skin next month.
The pump shoots the product quite rapidly and I tend to spill it on furnishing, it is best to pump a few drops into your hand and then massage onto the scalp. The smell does pong, a very unpleasant smell but it soon disappears. I usually leave the product on for 5-10 mins and then use my Australian organics haircare. The oil is quickly absorbed within seconds and I felt the benefits instantly.
After shampooing I notice my hair was a lot smoother and had no tangles making it really easy to apply my conditioner. It did not weigh my hair down at all and my hair was revived back to health. Once dried my hair looked a lot shinier and silky smooth. My hairdresser even commented about my hair when I was at the hairdressers on Monday she said my hair felt really soft and asked me when I last washed my hair.
Price: 5/5
Quality: 5/5
Packaging: 4/5
Overall: 4/5

Pros:
Instant results
silky lustrous hair
Nourishes hair
strengthens from deep within

Cons:
the pump shoots the product too quick
Would I re-purchase again? YESSSS, it working wonders for my hair I use it once a week and not only my hair looks so good it is much easier to manage.

alva coleur lip balm review

Thursday, 2 June 2011

Product Name: Soft peach Organic Lip balm
Weight/Price:  8ml for £7.85
Made in: N/A
Where to buy:
http://www.mypure.co.uk/alva-coleur-makeup-b143/organic-lip-balm-p1183
Product Description: Organic Coleur Lip Balm comes in two shades. It is an intensively moisturising lip balm that conditions and protects the lips. The inclusion of beta glucans makes Alva lip balm the perfect choice for those with sensitive lips.

Full Ingredients
Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, oleic/linoleic/linolenic polyglycerides, hydrogenated apricot kernel oil, hydrogenated apricot oil unsaponifiables, Prununs armeniaca (apricot) kernel oil unsaponifiables, decyl olive esters, Oenothera biennis (evening primrose) oil, tocopherol, Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), Camelina sativa seed oil, yeast polysaccharides, Macadamia ternifolia seed oil, squalene, CI 77007, CI 77742, natural fragrance, linalool
Active ingrediants:
Personal Experience: There’s a lot of moisturising properties in this lip balm, such as Jojoba oil, vitamin E and Olive squalene and shea butter.
It was a challenge as the only lip balm that works for me is kiehl’s #1. Without kiehl’s my lips is chapped flaky and dry, using any other products my lips will dry within 10 minutes. Using this every single day, I notice it condition my lips very well, in total I would reapply for 3-4 times a day.
The product line has two colour choices I was afraid to try the bright purple colour as I like my lips to look natural during the day. So I choose soft peach colour, on application it instantly smoothes my lips and surprisingly no tint of colour as it shows up clear. It smells quite sweet, must be the apricot the applicator comes with a sponge tip and is easy to apply on the lips.
It makes a fantastic primer for lipstick, I have notice near the end of my trial the lips will chapped, but overall I’m really satisfied with the lip balm.

Price: 4/5
Quality: 4/5
Packaging: 5/5
Overall: 4/5

Pros:
Used around 10% of product over the month
smells great
moisturise and makes lips soft

Cons:
lips starting chapping near the end of the trial
Would I re-purchase again? Maybe, besides kiehl’s this lip balm is pretty decent, you will get instant soft smackers, and smells very good too.

Living Nature Manuka Honey Rescue gel review

Thursday, 5 May 2011

Living Nature
Product Name: Rescue gel
Weight/Price:  10ml for £7.99
Made in: N/A
Where to buy: mypure

Product Description:
Formulated with Manuka Oil and Honey renowned for its healing properties, it’s a soothing fast drying gel for superficial cuts, grazes and skin irritations and blemish prone skin. This 10ml tube is a great size for the cosmetic bag.

Full Ingredients
Aqua (water), Mel (manuka honey), Leptospermum scoparium oil (manuka oil), Sclerotium gum, Citrus grandis seed extract (grapefruit seed extract), Phormium tenax leaf juice (NZ flax gel), Tocopherol (vitamin E), Xanthan gum, Melaleuca alternifolia oil (tea tree oil)

Personal Experience: The product comes in a small 10ml tube in a box simple packaging design using black on white. My initial thought was what are the benefits of honey to heal blemishes? It’s a small tube but a little goes a long way. A small squirt covers the spots on my left side of the face. The products contains honey and tea tree. Tree tea is often found in most spot products, it smells gorgeous and the honey is quite overpowering.  I use the product just before I go to bed, although over the month my spots haven’t completed disappeared I noticed the spots shrinking turning into small pus. I know myself these spots are hormonal spots and there’s not much I can do about them. For now I can say I need to be patient and wait longer to see if it completely disappears. I think this product works fantastic to shrink spots and slowly the skin surface is starting to renew itself, I also wanted to point out I have been using new skincare by pure nuff care for blemish skin which is also aiding with the blemish control.

Price: 5/5
Quality: 5/5
Packaging: 5/5
Overall: 5/5

Pros:
Little goes a long way
only used 10% of the product over the month

Cons:
spots haven’t completely disappeared
Would I re-purchase again? Yes, defiantly most spot treatment cost around £5, £7.99 is a great price and the product seems to be working great on me.

Comes complete with a separate sponge compartment for hygienic and clean storage.

Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil
Zinc oxide
Natural Parfum
Chamomilla Recutita Extract
Vitis Vinifera (Grape)
Yeast Polysaccharide
Potassium sorbate

Personal Experience: you have three colours to choose from, it is very hard to tell as on screen the colour beige-medium looks dark in real life it is really light. The bronzing powder comes in a sturdy piano black compact great to bring out on the go and has a decent size mirror. The white sponge keeps the powder transferring to the mirror. The powder is baked so it is really long lasting and doesn’t crumble a big plus for me. The colour itself failed to show up on my skin, as you can see from my swatches the powder produces a slight shimmer and works well to highlight my cheeks. As a bronzer it didn’t make my skin look tanned or bronze. I had to put a few layers on to make it show up on my face, I usually like to use a bronzer as a contour for cheeks.
Price: 4/5
Quality: 4/5
Packaging: 5/5
Overall: 4/5

Pros:
shimmery on application
long lasting
the compact will last you a very long time

Cons:
did not make my skin look tan
Would I re-purchase again? Yes, if I get to try the darker shade as it is long wearing and the product will last me a long time

Alva COLEUR concealer #medium review

Monday, 14 March 2011

Besides mineral foundation foundation I never really explored natural make up. I decided to choose a natural make up product to try out for this month.

Taken from Mypure website
Alva COLEUR entices with its modern natural tones, young fresh feel and innovative natural ingredients. The entire range is certified organic by EcoCert®, its also vegan, talc-free and carmine-free.

What makes COLEUR truly unique amongst all other natural and organic make-up brands is that all products contain Wellmune®, a patented beta glucan that primes the immune system – this makes COLEUR make-up suitable for those who may be prone to eczema, dermatitis and other sensitive skin conditions. Wellmune® also has anti-ageing benefits.

The medium Concealer is colour-matched with the medium Fluid Foundation and medium Baked Powder. With patented active beta glucan, nourishing apricot kernel oil, calendula extract, flax oil and evening primrose oil.

Alva Coleur concealer only comes in 2 shades; unfortunately the colour didn’t match me I picked shade #2 medium. It was a tad bit dark, with peachy tones.

Full Ingredients

carnauba wax, rice powder, apricot seed extract, squalene, vitamin E, natural perfume, macadamia oil, wellmune, evening primrose oil, camelina oil, marigold extract, licorice root extract, geraniol, citronellol, limonene

Packagingit comes in a stylish slick black lipstick style, 4g in size and cost £11.35
http://www.mypure.co.uk/alva-coleur-makeup-b143/organic-concealer-stick-p1181

Pros

 nice creamy texture
 buildable
Cons
 only comes in 2 shades
✗ wasn’t long wearing

Verdict: The concealer was nice and creamy texture, I apply this on top of acne and it did not irritate my skin at all. I used a MAC 224 brush or ELF studio concealer to apply this onto my skin. It did take a few layers to notice the difference. It didn’t completely cover my spots/scars and I found the concealer didn’t last very long, 8 hours gone and it slipped from my face.  For me, I wouldn’t repurchase this product as it did not match my skin colour, I would love to see more shades from Alva in the near future.

Acorelle oriental wax review

Thursday, 3 March 2011

Acorelle is a French beauty brand committed to innovation and harmony, a brand that respects the body as well as the environment. Most of their products are ECO – Cert, there was two products I wanted to try from the brand. I already loved their perfumes which are made with 100% natural ingredients. http://www.acorellebeauty.com/

Today I will talk about the Acorelle oriental wax.

Acorelle Oriental Wax
The oriental wax is made up of 100% natural ingredients 91.5% of the total are organic. The wax heats up in low heat temperature for easy application to the eyebrow and upper lip and small areas of the face.

The contents contain
1 precision applicator 0.5oz
1 wooden spatula
12 washable and reusable strips

Packaging:
It come in a pretty pale pink box with illustrations and photos of natural ingredients, the instructions was in French and English.
The product cost £8.99 from mypure
http://www.mypure.co.uk/acorelle-epilation-b160/oriental-wax-with-strips-delicate-areas-ylang-flower-cane-sugar-p1392

Directions:
1. Prep skin by cleansing
2. Preparing the wax, place the tube in hot water applicator down for 2 mins (always perform a touch test to test the temperature.
3. Apply a drop of wax and spread a thin layer
4. Immediately add the strip of wax and pull off the strip in the opposite direction.

Pros
 Easy to use
leaves skin smooth re growth is slower and finer
Cons took a while to remove all hair from upper lip pricey for small quantity✗ did not pick up all hairs on upper lip

Verdict: It was very easy to use and simple, pop the wax in a cup and wait 2 mins until it becomes runny. I’m a honey fan and this smelt good enough to eat, the strip however did not pick all my hair and it took several strips to remove my hair. It did look fabulous after, my skin was smooth. I am quite lucky as my upper lip hair does not grow too quick my usual method for upper lip hair removal is DIY threading. The hair growth for this product was about 2-3 weeks so in total I only used this product twice. I did find this product pricey at £8.99 as I’m happy to use DIY threading or my Nads hair removal gel which cost £9.99 for a tub. I won’t be repurchasing because of the cost and find DIY threading cheaper and more efficient.

Living nature nourishing shampoo and conditioner review

Thursday, 25 November 2010

Living nature is a New Zealand brand and is one of the first companies to produce products without the synthetic preservatives or parabeans.
Living nature makes the following promises to customers
  • No Synthetic Preservatives
  • No ingredients we consider potentially harmful
  • No Mineral Oils
  • No Irradated Ingredients
  • No Herbicide or Pesticide Residues
  • No Genetically Modified Ingredients
  •  No Animal Ingredients
  •  No Animal Testing
  •  Always Use High Quantities of Bioactive Ingredients
  •  Only Use Recyclable, Reusable, Reduced Packaging
The products I’m reviewing are 100% natural preservatives, fragrance and ingredients.
Packaging – I thought the packaging for both the shampoo and conditioner was really interesting, in photos it looked like a cylinder, but it reality it’s a half a cylinder that’s flat on one side. The branding of the artwork is simple using only the colour black for the logo, text, the bottle is an off white colour and comes in a press top cap.
Living Nature Nourishing Shampoo – The manufacture promises to help repair and nurture dry and damaged hair. Product cost £14.99 and is 200ml/1.76 fl oz.
Active ingredients – Kumerahou and active manuka honey
Kumerahou – it has the ability to produce lather by rubbing flowers and leaves together in water. The lathering properties are deprived from natural surfactants known as saponins. The benefits are gentle cleansing and anti-microbial.
Full ingredients - Aqua (water), Decyl glucoside, Sodium lauroyl glutamate, Glycerin (vegetable glycerin), Mel (manuka honey), Coco-glucoside, Glyceryl oleate, Galactoarabinan (larch tree gum), Parfum (fragrance)*, Xanthan gum, Butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter**, Glucose, Pomaderris kumerahou flower/leaf extract, Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil**, Triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil, Glucose oxidase, Lactoperoxidase, Tocopherol (vitamin E). *From natural essential oils. **Certified organic.
Directions of use – Use daily if needed. Massage a small amount into wet hair working from roots to ends to clean thoroughly. Rinse with warm water and follow with Living Nature Nourishing Conditioner.
Verdict- The aroma of the shampoo is a very sweet smelling it is uplifting and fills the bathroom with the smell. The consistency of the shampoo is very runny and I have to use a ping pong size to produce lather in my hair I always shampoo my hair twice to make sure it cleans properly. It does not make your hair knotty when you shampoo. After rinsing it makes the hair immediately softer, the condition of my hair prior to using was dry and damaged and frizzy and hard to control.
Living Nature Conditioner – Same with the shampoo it promises to help repair and nurture dry and damaged hair. Product cost £14.99 for 250ml/6.76fl.oz.
Active ingredients – Active manuka honey and larch tree extract
Full ingredients - Aqua (water), Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil**, Cetearyl olivate (from olive oil), Sorbitan olivate (from olive oil), Pentaclethra macroloba (pracaxi fruit) seed oil**, Sucrose cocoate (from coconut & sugar beet), Persea gratissima (avocado) oil, Cetyl Palmitate (from olive oil), Sorbitan Palmitate (from olive oil), Galactoarabinan (larch tree gum), Glycerin (vegetable glycerin), Triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil, Parfum (natural fragrance)*, Glucose (plant sugar), Caryocar brasiliense (pequi) fruit oil, Cetearyl alcohol (from coconut & palm oil), Mel (manuka honey), Glucose oxidase (from milk), Lactoperoxidase (from milk), Tocopherol (vitamin E). * Component of natural essential oils ** Certified organic
Directions of use – Smooth through wet hair from roots to ends after cleansing with Living nature nourishing shampoo. Leave for a few minutes, then rinse well with warm water.
Verdict – The consistency of the conditioner is very light weight, almost like a moisturiser creamy texture. The smell is really strong very similar to Japanese sake I wanted to gag the first time I used this product. As weeks went passed I was use to smell, it detangles my hair nicely.
After washing my hair and blowing drying it straight.
Final verdict –
Both products work well in harmony with one and the other, my hair texture has improved dramatically, usually after washing my hair my hair would be very thick even after blow drying. Using these products helped smooth the hair cuticles nicely and helped with my frizzy hair. It really did help nourish my dry and damaged hair. Usually I have noticed when I used natural and SLS free hair products my hair tends to become greasy after 2 days; this wasn’t the case with Living nature. There was a time when I didn’t wash my hair for 3-4 days and my hair wasn’t visibly greasy but as soon as I washed my hair the water was filthy. The only thing this shampoo didn’t really give me was shine; sometimes I would use some Tara Smith base serum for some shine in my hair. I really enjoyed using Living Natural hair care products but the price tag puts me off for £14.99 for a bottle, means I need to spend £30 for the duo.
Living nature products is available from mypure

Akin sandalwood & neroli pure facial cleansing gel review

Saturday, 30 October 2010

For this month I was allowed to choose my own products that I wanted to test drive. The Akin cleansing gel was something I was considering to purchase last year. If you have been following me you would know I was breaking out with acne for 2-3 weeks this month. At the time I was using Liz Earle and the coco butter content was clogging the pores around the chin and forehead area. So I was looking for things to help clear up my acne. This review is based on the 3 weeks of use, as it did not clear my acne up; it actually irritated my pores more.
All akin’s products are parabean and sulphate free, the pure facial cleansing gel promises fresh vibrant skin, has a non-drying formula removes all traces of excess sebum and make up. It is suitable for normal, combination and oily skin. This product contains B5 & witch hazel, it is pure pH balanced.
Active ingredients
Witch hazel – used to treat wounds, itchy and dry skin
Neroli – is considered to have a smoothing effect for the nervous system and increase circulation
Packaging
Out of all the Akin’s products I purchased and have been sent this one came boxed. It has the usual cream/beige colour with a brown orange colour for the text and an illustration of a plant on the front which is repeated on the back. The side of the box contains ingredients and directions of use.  The actual product itself comes in a squeeze tube and is 225ml in size. The product cost £13.99.
Directions of use –
Use morning and night, apply a small amount to the face and décolletage, massage and rinse off. Ideal to use in the shower. Follow with your favourite A’kin moisturizer. I have notice the directions is slightly different on the box, it says follow with A’kin refreshing and smoothing toner and either A’kin anti oxidant day crème or in the evening A’kin repairing anti-oxidant night crème.
Verdict – I have used it from the end of September for about 2 weeks, and for another week after my acne started to clear up. When I first used this it did not foam on my face very well. I had to contact the A’kin Company just to double check if I was using it right. I was advised to add some water to face to help produce some foam, by the second week it foamed on my face really easy without the need of adding water.
The consistency of the gel is a rather nice smooth texture; it has a slight tint of orange colour otherwise its clear in appearance. The smell is subtle like quite musky.  After rinsing my face, it made my face feel sticky a toner is a must to get rid of the residue of the gel. My skin felt tight after I used it and at the time I used my usual boots glycerine and rosewater toner and the A’kin day and night crème. At first the spots and pores shrank and I thought the cleansing gel worked, but as the week went my face felt dry and tight so I reach out to use the A’kin rosehip & shea butter intensive moisturiser which was a big mistake as the shea butter clogged my pores.
By now my skin looked really terrible and the spots spread to more areas, and I was suffering from a spell of acne so I stopped using this product then I started the acne skin regime as posted on my blog.
As my acne started clear up I wanted to give this product a second chance, most of my acne cleared up so I managed to use this for another week.
It foamed on my skin really well, but still left my skin feeling tight after use. I introduced boots botanic pore perfecting toner after rinsing and the A’kin day and night crème and it has helped softening my face. However I have noticed more bumps and lumps on my forehead, and even saw spots with green pus inside. So I’m pretty certain there’s something in this that irritates my pores. The only good thing is that it has helped cleaned the blackheads on the nose, so I will be continuing to use it for my nose only. Other than that this product is a miss for me, I do think this will suit someone with combination/oily skin because of the gel formula and the way it leaves the skin feel tighter.
You can buy Akin sandalwood & neroli pure facial cleansing gel from mypure.

Lovea Bio Argan Oil Cell Renewal Body Scrub Review

Wednesday, 6 October 2010

This month I was sent Lovea Bio Argan Oil Cell Renewal Body Scrub to test out. It’s been over 3 weeks of testing. More about Lovea brand on their website http://www.loveabio.fr
This product is 99.2% natural and contains sugar, argan oil, and orange peel.  This scrub is suitable for all skin types.
Full ingredients list
Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, EXTRACT * Saccharum officinarum (Saccharum officinarum (SUGAR CANE) EXTRACT), SILICA Octyldodecanol, argan SPINOSA OIL *, caprylyl / capryl glucoside, Helianthus annuus * SEED OIL (Helianthus annuus (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL), Capsicum annuum * FRUIT EXTRACT, argan SPINOSA SHELL POWDER * CITRUS aurantium dulcis (CITRUS aurantium dulcis (ORANGE) PEEL POWDER), TOCOPHEROL, Tocopheryl Acetate, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), AQUA (WATER), Glyceryl caprylate, POLYEPSILON-LYSINE, Dehydroacetic ACID, BENZYL ALCOHOL, Limonene, Linalool.
This product is packaged in a see through tube, and with Lovea branding on the front and back. The text is written in French, so I had to go online to Lovea website and mypure for directions of use.  The product is 150 ml in size and cost £7.49.
Lovea Bio Body Scrub with Argan Oil is formulated with orange peel, sugar and argan oil to gently exfoliate and promote cell renewal.
Directions of use
Apply 1-2 times a week on damp skin, with small circular movements with emphasis on areas roughest. Rinse thoroughly.

The colour of the scrub is brown, and you can see the small particles of sugar and orange peel once squeezed out. I must warn you about my accident, being in a tube and the particles of sugar and orange peel, the tube became clogged up with the product and you will find it very hard to squeeze the scrub out of its tube. I had it upright and the scrub landed on my hair and it took me around 3 washes to get rid of the oil and sugar. Lovea needs to change the packaging as this has happened quite often, I would like to see this product in a tub so I can control the amount I use.  I have almost used the product up within the last month of testing.
The product smells really sweet I just loved the oriental aroma it is great in the shower as the smells surround you. I absolutely love the scent of orange peel. You can see the tiny particles of sugar, and the slight oil consistency visible on your skin. I actually thought I was smelling honey all this time until I checked the ingredients online.
The product was very easy to work with on damp skin in the shower.  As for exfoliation I think the product was too gentle and couldn’t feel the effects of the micro particles of sugar and orange peel on my skin. Once rinsed off your skin is left feeling coated with the argan oil which I liked, yet it wasn’t enough for me so I had to use a body butter or cream afterwards. It did leave my legs with a nice sheen.
Overall I loved the smell of the scrub, but did not find exfoliate my skin very well. The tube packaging needs to be changed as I had no control of the amount distributed and once clogged was very hard to get anything out. You can tell how much I struggled by the state of the packaging shown in my photo’s.
